Calypso Listen for the distinctive rhythm between bass and snare drum. Calypso is another 8-beat style.  The teacher part in Happy Times from American Popular Piano Level 6 brings in other calypso elements - the left hand plays a repeated pattern that catches some of the bass and snare accents, the right hand does a clave rhythm (the most distinctive Latin/ Caribbean element)  The combination of all these rhythms creates polyrhythms which are very much the essence of the style.
