Big Band Swing

Drums play a classic swing pattern while the bass player “walks” 4 to a bar:


In big band arrangements, there are lots of rhythmic ideas played by sections of the band, sometimes in rhythmic unison, but often featuring contrasting block harmony  ideas played simultaneously. Here is the vibes part of Horn Section from American Popular Piano Level 1, playing melodic ideas with exuberant full chords:


Meanwhile, the brass section play a unison line followed by punchy chords:
